Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of carer applicants in accordance with the OCG OOHC Standards and NSW Child Safe Standards.
  • Conduct thorough referee checks to inform assessments.
  • Complete comprehensive assessment reports incorporating recommendations based on quality analysis.
  • Incorporate associated relevant checks into assessments.

Essential Requirements:

  • A university undergraduate degree or higher in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Behavioural Sciences or similar.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience working in or with children and young people in the OOHC system.
  • Professional experience writing high quality reports and assessments.
  • NSW Working With Children Check.
  • National Police Check (obtained within the last 12 months).
  • Step by Step Registration (2016).
  • Driver’s license and access to your own vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
  • Access to phone, computer, and internet.
  • Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.
  • Willingness to travel regionally or interstate if required.

Infinitas Support Services is looking for an Aboriginal Cultural Advisor to assist our Independent Assessment and Training Team. The primary aim of the advisor is to help support young people in out of home care. We encourage all experienced people who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander to apply*.

About the role

The NSW Aboriginal Cultural Advisor position is a newly created contract role within Infinitas Support Services that will work alongside our Independent Assessment and Training team to ensure that Aboriginal Children and Young People receive Culturally Safe care and support.

The role of the NSW Aboriginal Cultural Advisor will be:

  • Contribute to the provision and quality of culturally sensitive and responsive services, and a culturally safe working environment through consultation and engagement with Infinitas Support Services team members, Aboriginal Peoples, and relevant Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO’s)
  • Provide guidance to teams on culturally appropriate ways of working with children and young people we support who identify as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Support capability via cultural reflection and coaching of staff undertaking planning and contributing to any training resources developed in support of this key function

Essential Requirements:

The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:

  • Identify as Aboriginal with cultural competency required to undertake this role
  • Knowledge of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) people and communities in the context of family
  • Knowledge and or lived experience on the issues impacting ATSI children and young people residing in statutory out of home care
  • Comprehensive understanding of culturally appropriate contemporary engagement with ATSI families
  • Extensive knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal people and communities in contemporary society Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with ATSI people
  • Strong communication skills both spoken and written, with the ability to adapt communication styles depending on the setting
  • Current ABN or willingness to obtain
